Signature Trip

Inshore grand slam

Big fish, lots of fish, and stunning tropical islands — one of the best inshore fisheries on earth.

In size, action and diversity, the Gulf of Chiriquí is home to one of the best inshore fisheries in the world. With hundreds of islands and incredible bottom structure, you can do it all.

This is one of the best places anywhere to catch big roosterfish and cubera snapper — and one of the best places to catch lots of them. Those are the headliners, but there's much more: mullet snapper, bluefin trevally, sierra mackerel, amberjack, rock snapper, grouper and all manner of jacks. We even catch wahoo inshore sometimes.

Tackle & methods

Equipped for an incredible diversity of species.

To be ready for that diversity, our boats carry a variety of tackle. For big snapper and roosters, we'll troll live bonito on 50-pound conventional gear (it sounds like overkill until it isn't), and drift bonito chunks over high spots for cubera. We bump-troll live blue runners and goggle eyes on lighter conventional tackle, and you can cast poppers and stick baits on spinning gear.

We carry jigging outfits to drop vertical jigs on bottom structure, and we'll break out the fly rod if you're so inclined. No matter where we target, much of our inshore fishing happens around some of the most beautiful tropical islands you'll ever see. It's a wonderful experience.

The best part

Inshore and offshore in the same day.

Another thing that makes the Gulf of Chiriquí so incredible is the ability to fish inshore and offshore in the same day. In many regions, those grounds are separated by 50 miles or more.

Because of the bottom structure and the many islands that rise straight from the depths, a single day here might include time on marlin and tuna as well as roosterfish or snapper. It's a really great feature of the fishing here — one that isn't available in most other places.
