The Region
Isla Montuosa
A tropical wonderland that produces some of the best fishing you will find anywhere — 38 miles out, where deep water meets rugged structure.
Montuosa Island is a tropical wonderland, and it produces some of the best fishing you will find anywhere. We fish here quite a bit — and for good reason.
Just south of the island lies the Burbuja, a high spot where bubbles emanate from the seafloor. It is a black marlin and yellowfin hotspot, and we frequently run into schools of tuna here. There are sailfish, dorado, blue marlin and wahoo too.
Montuosa itself is uninhabited, its mountainous relief covered in rainforest. The surf crashing into the island is beautiful, and a stretch of land juts into the ocean draped in coconut palms. Rocky shorelines and pinnacles ring the island, so there can be some really good inshore fishing here as well — the rare combination of rich bottom structure with close access to deep water.

The variety
Bottom structure and deep water, side by side.
Few places hand you this much variety in a single day. Run the Burbuja for marlin and tuna, then slide in to the pinnacles for roosterfish, cubera and the rest of the inshore lineup. The fishing changes by the hour, and that is exactly why we keep coming back.
