Poppers & jigging

Some of the most epic topwater experiences in all of fishing — pop, pop, smash.

The Gulf of Chiriquí is a wonderland for anyone passionate about throwing poppers or dropping jigs. When it comes to topwater, we have some of the most epic experiences in all of fishing.

Offshore, the pinnacle is tuna. Throwing a popper into a frenzy is an experience like no other — pop, pop, smash, and next thing you know your reel is singing and line is melting into the sea. The fish could be 20 pounds or north of 200. We catch dorado on topwaters too, and we've even had sailfish take a swipe.

Inshore, the headliner is a roosterfish or cubera on top. The crest of a rooster knifing through the water as it assaults a Yo-Zuri is the kind of thing that keeps you up at night. When a big cubera mashes a popper, it looks like a hand grenade going off — followed by a run powerful enough to turn your spinning reel inside out. And the variety is staggering: any cast might bring a jack, snapper, grouper, trevally or something else entirely. We proudly fish Yo-Zuri topwaters and stick baits — they catch fish and stand up to everything we put them through.

Jigging

All that structure makes for great jigging.

The Gulf's rich bottom structure makes for excellent jigging, and we catch an incredible variety of fish doing it. There are also times we drop jigs to schools of tuna suspended offshore.

Every boat carries a variety of jigging outfits, so if jigging is your thing, just let us know and we'll be ready. And if you have your own gear you love, you're welcome to bring it along.
